Description
GENZLER AMPLIFICATION is proud to launch our new brand with the introduction of a uniquely new approach to bass instrument loudspeaker design, the Bass Array 12-3.
Although the same size as many premium 12” and tweeter cabinets this new design is so much more complex and rewarding to the performer.
This innovative design blends the benefits of a 12” vented bass reflex design with the performance and pattern control of a 4 x 3” neodymium driver line array element. The benefits of combining both design platforms in an extremely compact cabinet are exponential for the player:
- Full, deep, low frequency response from the high efficiency 12” ported woofer — doing what it does best. Excellent support of the low B fundamental of 5 string instruments.
- A selective crossover point overcomes the “beaming” (pattern narrowing) effects of a full range signal being reproduced by larger low frequency drivers.
- Lowers midrange and high frequency distortion by allowing the use of small, high performance cone transducers that would otherwise be unsuitable without the increased acoustic sensitivity obtained by the array design.
- This design provides a more open, smoother midrange and high frequency response because of the ideal natural characteristics of the mid-high frequency array when compared to a conventional tweeter that cannot reproduce the crucial midrange frequencies without pattern control or un-natural distortion.
What this means in the context of performance is the most focused, defined, musical, smooth and seamless response possible throughout the BA12-3’s entire full-range bandwidth. Additionally the placement of the Line Array in front of the 12” woofer further provides a type of “single point source” projection—think of it as concentric speakers, one inside of the other, in the same linear plane. Also due to line array principals the all-important mid and high frequencies have a much wider horizontal dispersion with a more controlled vertical pattern. This offers the most even projection possible around the perimeter of the stage and audience.

There are so many good things about this cabinet. It has the best dispersion throughout the room of any live sound cabinet I have heard. It’s light enough that I can move it easily. I play with 4 groups, and a wide variety of musical styles. For the quieter groups, I can hear myself better at the volumes they want. I have had several musician friends with good ears tell me I’m getting the clearest, most pitch-defined sound they’ve heard from a bass. I’m using a Mesa D800 with either a Fender Select Jazz (with Bartolini pups & pre and D’Addario half rounds) or a Lakland Decade (stock Chi-sonics with Thomastic flats). The Bass Array opens up both instruments with a warm, clear beauty that’s almost embarrassingly satisfying. If you haven’t heard this cabinet, I certainly suggest you make the effort. But you better bring your dineros, shekels, scratch, or whatever you call it, cuz y’er gonna want this cabinet. Gary, Indianapolis

I was an early adopter of the BA12-3 and have one of the first signed editions. My previous cab had been an Acme B2 and it just wasn’t working for me. I primarily play a fretless and wanted a cab that would translate the full range of my instrument and which would especially allow the kind of vocal expressiveness of the fretless. The Acme’s low end is HUGE but rather soft and pillowy and over powered the mids and highs so I was looking for something else. I considered a number of the current higher end cabs but found the idea of the array really intriguing and felt it would likely provide what I wanted/needed. I ordered one without having played it first. The cab exceeded all of my hopes. The lows are warm, round, and tight. It goes deep but never feels sloppy. The mids are vocal and translate the expressiveness of the fretless perfectly. My mwahhh goes on for days. The trebles are present but never harsh… just smooth… The dispersion is amazing and I have found that a single cab is adequate for all of my needs – a moderate volume church band, accompanying singer/songwriters, and a guitar based original band. It translates my fretless perfectly and it just sings. When I play my fretted bass, it hits like a hammer.
I understand that stacking two or three of these cabs increases the strengths exponentially but one is soooo good, I can’t justify adding another. I do find that it works better for me though on a stand rather than on the floor.
I’m using the Magellan 800 as my head and also have the 350 combo. I gave 5 star reviews for each.
