Description

Our circuitry and mechanical designs within the KINETIX 800 deliver an all-new platform in tube preamp, compact bass amplification design – exactly what players have come to expect from the GENZLER® design team.  From natural, pristine, quick responsive reproduction of the bass instrument to classic, vintage harmonic textures with “weighted feel to the notes”, the KINETIX™ 800 provides the tonal pallet needed to cover all of the bassist’s amplifier requirements. It is a simple to use, very musical amplifier, and is what a high-voltage tube preamp brings to the player’s dynamic interaction with their instrument through a world class bass amplifier.

The KINETIX 800 preamp offers 3 – 12AX7 preamp tubes running at a full 300 volts, offering the character, touch sensitivity and harmonic content of classic tube, bass amplification.  Other features include a ¼” unbalanced instrument INPUT jack; 3-position toggle switch for MUTE, ON and BOOST functions; preamp GAIN and VOLUME controls; 3-position tonal foundation switch for LEAN, FAT and THICK settings; 5-band, fixed equalization filters and a MASTER volume control.  The power amp is a robust, lightweight, Class D design and is supported by a state-of-the-art, high frequency, switch-mode power supply (SMPS), which does away with the weight of a traditional power transformer.  The KINETIX 800 utilizes a proprietary high-voltage power supply for the all tube preamp.  This uses a rear panel Line Voltage Selector switch for proper setting of the correct line voltage range for the specific country of use. This allows the world traveling musician to always have the correct tube voltage for optimum performance.

I just got my Kinetix 800, and it is a tremendous bass head. The power is undeniable at 800 watts in a class D format, and the warmth and bottom I get from the tube preamp gives me that old-school feel and sound. I just recorded with the Kinetix 800, and it sounds even better on tape! When I listened to the playback the low-end with its round rich fat sound gave me goosebumps ( I kid you not). This thing can do it all, I’m hooked, I’m taking this thing into the studio and on stage from now on, this thing can hang with the big tube bass heads.

I bought my Kinetix 800 exactly a month ago. I used it the first weekend I owned it on a show with my band. I ran it with my Genzler Magellan 212. All I can say is, AWESOME!! I had to friends in the audience, both of which are bass players who have heard me play before and the feedback I got from both was “what are you doing differently, your sound is killer”. It was the amp, it’s the only explanation. It delivers the sweetest warmest lows killer mid-range punch. It thumps and also delivers really sweet warm tone. If I need to dirty up, well it can do that to at a very impressive level. The tubed preamp responds unbelievably to my attack no matter how light or hard I’m going after my strings and just produces the warmest tones. I play mostly in the Fat setting and that setting is true tom it’s name. The tone it produces is fat and warm but when i dig in it responds equivocally and punches right back. The power is ridiculous, It’s true to it’s 800 watts and moves a lot of air. I have since added the BA210 Bass Array. Which leads me to another great function of this amp, it can run down to 2.67 ohms (8-ohm cab + 4-ohm cab). I have played 2 more gigs with this set up of the Kinetix with the Magellan 212 and BA210 and I have never been happier with the overall performance of my sound!! The Genzler Kinetix 800 is simply AMAZING!! If you are thinking about making this your amp, pull the trigger!! It’s AMAZING and AWESOME and you will not regret it. It truly outclasses every amp in it’s class. Another great perk about Genzler, the owner Jeff is very approachable. Anytime I have emailed him directly, he has always returned my emails. Amazing company, Amazing owner and an AMAZING product!! It’s a win, win, win so go get one and thoroughly enjoy it, I know I have!

I bought my Kinetix 800 the day after it was released here in Sweden, May 1st. My aim at the moment was to get an all tube amp to get that tube tone and growl, but when the Kinetix was delivered I cancelled the deal I had going on. The new Genzler amp met all expectations with good margin. Years ago I owned a Genz Benz Streamliner 900 amp that I really liked. There was just one thing missing in that amp: the clarity and ability to get the pristine clean tone that later became the trademark in the Magellan amps. I’ve had an 800 and still have the 350, the amp I’ve used for 95 % of my gigs since I got it.

Anyway, the Kinetix is another animal. It can produce some really warm and “grainy” tube tone but also a clean tube tone, somewhat more “glassy” than an all solid state head like the Magellan. The Kinetix can also go over the top coming to overdriven tone, but that is not my cup of tea. Another thing I like is the very versatile five band equalizer and the two small three way switches, the first one with Mute – On – Boost: perfect for instruments with different output, and the Lean – Fat – Thick switch that emulates various types of power amp sound. I prefer the Fat position.

Playing with this amp gives me the opportunity and possibility to play more dynamic to change the timbre of the overall sound. Mostly I play passive five string basses, and do not like tweaking a lot of knobs. The five band eq is mostly set flat (noon) except for cutting some on the treble filter. It is difficult to speak tone, but I feel my tone is like glue in the band sound, regardless of bass played.

Still, when I do my church gigs I’ll continue using my little 350 on top of its 10-2 cabinet, also when only playing acoustic upright. But – if I have gigs with both upright and electric bass I can connect my upright preamp to the Aux In on the Kinetix and use the amp for both, sending DI to F.O.H. from the Kinetix for electric and DI from my upright pre separately. I do not use that many pedals and effects; I have a compressor to tame the most extreme peaks and get the dynamics a tad homogeneous, so the sound tech do not get p*ssed off.

Carrying an 800 Watt RMS amp in a chic handbag is way better than carrying a case with a big tube amp head. I can tote my rig, pedalboard (yep, I have some stomp boxes) and basses on the back in one trip from the car. I kind of like it…
