This is a review of the BA-115-3SLT (i.e., the prior model) but I’m confident that the BA2 version will be, if anything, even better and more capable.
I’m not a professional musician, but I am a very active “weekend warrior” playing in multiple bands across several genres. Most recently, I joined a cover band that currently plays heartland rock, classic rock, and country. It is a large, loud band comprising three guitars, drums, keyboard, bass, and multiple vocalists. Rehearsals with this band have been the first time I’ve been able to really open up my Genzler bass rig, which consists of a Magellan 800 head, the BA-115-3SLT cab, and a Genzler 4 On The Floor overdrive pedal (plus I use a HPF and an optical compressor).
The cab sounds phenomenal. It easily cuts through the dense mix, with a tone that is musical and authoritative without any harshness. Even with everything else going on in the mix, the bass is clear, solid, and immediate. There’s no boominess or muddiness, and the bass fills the large rehearsal space evenly. Everybody in the band can hear it.
I also appreciate that the cab doesn’t impart its own “color” but instead gives the user great flexibility in shaping the tone. For example, without overdrive and with the amp eq set pretty much flat, the cab provides a smooth, robust sonic foundation for songs by artists like The Mavericks or Emmylou Harris. If I engage the 4 On The Floor pedal – and maybe bump up the midrange a bit on Magellan – I get just enough grit and bark to support Rolling Stones songs beautifully. With the Magellan amp, it is also highly responsive to how much I dig in, which pickup I favor, etc. With this cab, I get the huge bottom end and depth of the 15” driver, without any of the compromises that 15s sometime have.
I may not make my living as a musician, but I’m very serious about it, and I’ve played lots of different brands of bass gear. In my opinion, Genzler is in a league by itself, and the BA-115-3SLT is the best sounding, most versatile cab I’ve used.
